100 Year Celebration - Dr. Carter G. Woodson - Black History Month Quiz Bowls
The 100 Year Celebration - Dr. Carter G. Woodson - Black History Month Quiz Bowl is a high-energy academic competition that celebrates Black history, culture, and excellence through fast-paced Quiz Bowl-style questions. Youth participants strengthen their knowledge across key eras, movements, leaders, arts, STEM, politics, sports, and community milestones while building confidence, teamwork, and public speaking skills. More than a contest, the Quiz Bowl is a learning experience that inspires pride, deepens historical understanding, and challenges students to think critically about the past and its impact on the present.
This year, the Quiz Bowls will be conducted across three school sites to expand access, participation, and community engagement. Each school will host a dedicated Bowl experience designed to energize students, activate school pride, and elevate the importance of Black history as an essential part of a complete education.
The first Bowl will be hosted at Daniel E. Morgan K–8 School, creating an engaging opportunity for students to demonstrate knowledge, curiosity, and leadership in a supportive environment. The second Bowl will take place at Ginn Academy, spotlighting scholarship and academic excellence while encouraging high school students to compete with speed, accuracy, and confidence.
The third Bowl will be held at Garfield Heights Middle School, reinforcing strong academic habits and celebrating student voice during a key developmental stage. Across all three sites, the Quiz Bowl will serve as a powerful platform for learning, friendly competition, and community celebration in honor of Dr. Carter G. Woodson and the enduring legacy of Black History Month.
